Wilder Nature

Nutrition & Health

After you’ve booked an appointment slot, you’ll receive paperwork, including a medical history and a 3 day food diary, so you may provide information about your symptoms, health concerns, medical history and eating habits. This needs to be submitted before your appointment to allow me to spend time working on your case prior to your first consultation.

At the consultation, we will discuss your health situation in detail, giving me the chance to ask more questions and for you to gain an understanding of the factors that may be contributing to your health issues. I want to understand and find out what has led to the current set of symptoms.

We will then work together on a plan of action to tackle your unique health concerns and work towards your goals. You will receive electronic copies of your Health Optimization Plan, and any relevant handouts, resources or recipes.

After a month, you’ll come back and we will review your progress and make adjustments to your plan based on your progress, addressing any difficulties that may have come up. My goal is to find easy and practical ways to support you in making the transition to better health.

The short answer is yes. The reason for this is because of the type of training I undertook. Functional Medicine works to identify the root cause of the symptoms or disease, which I believe is the only real, lasting way to effect change. The root causes are usually specific to individual – one persons headaches may be due to dehydration, another may be due to an undetected food allergy, or even stress. I conduct a full investigation into all aspects of medical history and lifestyle, allowing me the time and information to really connect the dots of your story.

If for some reason I feel your case would be better addressed by another practitioner, for example in the case of active cancer, I can refer you to a more suitable practitioner.

It’s hard to say as it varies between individuals. It has not been uncommon for me to see clients only 2 or 3 times, at which point the concerns they had brought have been resolved. Some clients benefit from a longer-term arrangement and ongoing support, especially with more complex cases. It is completely your decision how many appointments you book, and we will discuss a reasonable time frame during your first consultation. Consultations are usually set one month apart to allow sufficient time to make changes and see their effects.

I commonly see patients who are also under the care of their GP or hospital consultant and taking prescribed medication, and in certain cases work alongside other health professionals to ensure the best quality of care. Where necessary, it will be advised that you should keep your GP or other health professionals aware of specific symptoms or changes in diet, as these details may be important for your safety and wellbeing.

Tests and supplements may be recommended, but only if I truly believe they would be beneficial in your case. As a qualified Nutritional Therapist, I have full access to private laboratory testing if required, which is not included in the price of the consultation.

There is no pressure or requirement to take any tests or supplements that may be recommended. We can always work without these, as I very much work with a ‘food first’ approach.
